Evvy's voice drops conspiratorily, though it's more for fun than in seriousness. She leans towards Syd.
Once, the Undertaker didn't just have me dig a new hole... he had me dig up an old hole. One with a body innit. When I got down to where the body was 'sposed to be... it was long. It was sooo long. I couldn't even count how many ribs were onnit, I thought it was several bodies all in one grave somehow. I had to keep digging, several feet, just through bones and bones and bones. Then I found the artifact-- it was a long gold collar, wrapped around the thing's necklace. When I took it off, nearly all the ribs and spine vanished, and it was just a normal leyr!
You can't tell anyone, okay?
Syd leans in as Evvy does, completely drawn in by her story.
Whooaa! So the artifact turned them into some... huge, scary corvileyr! That's amazing! So what did you guys do with it? I won't tell, promise!
They frown suddenly, as they have a thought.
That's not why dad's so big, is it?
He keeps it in his tomb-- the masoleum marked with his name. I think there might be other ones there too, iunno.
Maybe! But that wouldn't explain why the Archivist is big, unless she has the same sorta jewelry, so maybe not.
Syd's eyes go wide and their long ears perk up in surprise. They take Evvy's 'might be' as a definite yes.
Dad has a whole bunch of artifacts hidden away?! Awesome!
They suddenly slap a hand over their mouth, realizing how loud they were speaking in their excitement.
Oh, oops. But anyway, I'll keep it secret, don't worry! Last thing you all need is a bunch of treasure hunters trying to raid this place, right?
...I guess dad could just eat them, though.
Ssssure you will, bud!
Evvy doesn't seem too concerned... The unfortunate truth is people don't always believe in children as much as they should, but so it went.
Don't forget he's got us here for him, too.
